Last one...for now

Ok.  I promise this will be my last post about pet peeves.

1. Vanity plates that don’t make sense.
I don’t mind vanity plates.  I think some are quite clever.  I just don’t understand paying extra money, taking the time to fill out extra paperwork for something everyone will see but no one will understand.
2. Emails sent in all CAPS.
Hey! Please stop shouting at me. Ouch! My ears hurt.

From the book Send “When words are written in capital letters, it means that the writer is shouting at you. Since no one likes to be yelled at, and people generally shout when they feel that they can win only by intimidation and not by reason, it is a good rule never to compose entire emails in capitals, even cheery ones.”

I guess what I am trying to say is:

Pet Peeves Part Two

My public demanded more of my pet peeves. Here are two more things that really bother me.

1) Email Forwards
I don't mind getting emails forwarded from other sources.  I have giggled and once even laughed out loud while reading these emails.  However, there are etiquette rules to follow when you forward emails. You must truly consider if I want your email.  If you forward any email that asks me to return it to you, you will not receive it back...ever.  If you threaten that something bad will happen to me if I delete the email, I will delete it on purpose.  Please...please...please... do not tell me that God will bless me if I forward an email....or a magic frog...or my guardian angel. When you forward an email, delete the rest of the email addresses or use bcc.  I do not need the entire email thread.
Apparently receiving email forwards bothers other people too.

2) Loud music from cars is incredibility annoying...especially the music with swear words.  I know I seem like an old fogey but I find the loud BOOM, BOOM while I am driving down the street very distracting.  Once my kids could not even hear "The Circle of Life" playing in our car because the person next to us felt like gracing us with his wonderful taste in music.

My Pet Peeves

I consider myself to be a reasonable person.  I try to see both sides of every issue before I make a decision. However, there are some things that just bug me.  In no particular order, here are my pet peeves.

1.    People who wear their Bluetooths during church services.
In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess that I do not like Bluetooths in general.  I understand wearing one while driving, but why do people need to wear one while putting their offering envelopes into the box.  Why do people need to wear one during service?  I wish someone would explain what is so important in their lives that cannot be out of touch for a 30 minute sermon.
2.   I do not like feet or shoes.
Feet are disgusting.  The bottom of your shoe is gross.  Think about it.  Your shoe touches everything filthy on the ground.  How often do you wash the bottom of your shoes? Take a good look at your feet.  Nasty, right?  People do not understand why I freak out when feet touch my pillow.  My face where your feet have been?  Yuck!

3 People, Africa  is not a country.
Africa is a continent.  How many times have you watched a movie or a television show and they said something about going to Africa?  Africa is the second largest continent.  People would never say, “I’m going to Europe,” unless they are going to several countries in Europe.  The ethnicities (not tribes) located on the continent of Africa are as different as the French and Germans. As a matter of fact, when I was researching Nigeria, I discovered the diversity in just that one country.

4.  Where has the “Thank you” wave gone?
Picture the scene…you are fighting traffic on the 405. You see a car in front of you put on its blinker. Being a nice person, you slow down and wave the person in.  Then you wait and wait and wait.  Nothing.  Not even a small acknowledgement of your kind act.  If you are like me, you then imagine ramming your car into their car. Really, would any jury convict you? People in LA, you are terrible drivers.  You go to fast, tailgate, never use your blinkers and do not know how to merge properly.

5.   Leave your name and number at the beep.
Why call me if you are not going to leave a message? Surely you wanted something.  Why don’t you tell me what it is?  I promise you I will try to call you back as soon as possible. You can help me, if you tell me what you want.  Instead I am wondering, “Do they really want to talk to me?”  Please save me some very precious moments, leave a message.
Nobody is perfect.
