Since I have dedicated two posts to pet peeves, I thought I would share a few of my favorite things. I am leaving the obvious things off the list (God, church, husband, kids and friends).
1) Music/singing
I love when a song I love comes on the radio. I can't help turning the volume up (not too loud, though) and belting out the tune. Now that I am older, I realize how inappropriate the lyrics are but I still have to sing along with the artist. Secret Lover, If I Ever Fall in Love, Baby Got Back, Superwoman (Karen White), Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, Object of My Desire, Rum Shaker, Kiss, Oh Sheila, Rhythm of the Night, Push It, etc... Oh the list could go on and on.
2) Beach
The smell, the sounds of the waves crashing, the spray in my face, and walking along the shore are all things I love about the beach. In college, I was invited to spend the night at a friend's beach house. I fell asleep to the sounds of waves crashing and woke up to the same sound. I have never had a better night's sleep.
3) Old movies, especially musicals
If I could live in a musical I would. Imagine, you are walking down the street and everyone bursts out into song. How grand! I do like the musicals of today, but classic musicals are my favorite. Hands down...Sound of Music is the best musical of all time.
4) Thanksgiving
Even though I am a vegetarian, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. A character in a book said it best, "No one expects anything but a good meal." Getting together with family and friends, relaxing and eating. What could be better?
5) Long walks alone
I recharge when I take a long walk. No distance is too much. I once walked an entire marathon alone.
6) Reading mystery novels
I get most of my books from a used book store.
7) Detective shows
Closer, Cold Case, Mentalist, Bones, even Psych and Monk and among my favorite shows.
Last but not least...
8) Mayim Bialik (best known as Blossom) as Amy Farrah Fowler on Big Bang Theory. Watch one episode and you will know what I mean.
