One therapist gave us a wonderful idea for teaching Kyle a specific skill. We would write social stories to address the area of need. Here are some good websites that teaches how to write them: http://www.autismhelp.info/htm/printfiles_body.htm, http://www.region2library.org/socialstories.htm , and

After writing the story, we would put it into a powerpoint presentation with pictures. We (or the school) would print out the pages and make the story into a book.Then when the issue came up, we could easily pull out the social story and read it again. We used this effective technique for his behavior in the car, his tone of voice, getting upset over classmates' behavior, when he needed a hug and more.
